Adventures in Hawaii: Snorkeling at Molokini Crater

A childhood mystery & lesson learned

My Grandpa V, who was always one of the best parts of my life, had a briefcase where he kept his most prized possessions. The other day, my mom gave me something that he had kept tucked away in this briefcase for a lot of years. The why would obviously be because he loved me, but the what is a little bit of a mystery:
I don't know what it's a drawing of, but I do know that I did it:
Yep, that's my age 6 or 7 year old autograph right there.

Beyond that, your guess is as good as mine! By the date on the front (which you can't see in the picture) I'm guessing I drew it after my family had returned from living in Texas for a year. Is it my interpretation of Texas? A cowboy boot? My grandpa's leg? haha! Who knows. It was important enough to him that he saved it among his other treasures (like old coins & some other valuables), which just reminds me that I'm important to him. You have to understand that he was technically my step-grandpa, although "step" never figured into our relationship. He was (and is) my grandpa, through and through, and I was his granddaughter. He taught me that family isn't always defined by blood. And that's a lesson I'll never forget.

  1. Reminds me of my Gpa Ed. I loved this post. So sweet to have saved what was a treasure to him.
