We have a pellet grill/smoker. But not a Traeger. For a number of reasons, but mostly because in our own research and comparisons, and talking to long-time pellet grill owners, another brand came out on top {in our estimation}.
We have a Green Mountain Grills' Jim Bowie. My boys helped me surprise Jeff with it last Christmas--so it's thanks to them that I got it home, hidden at the neighbors', then moved over to our place on Christmas Eve. And Jeff had no idea! :) I think he had his best Christmas ever.
Anyway, Green Mountain Grills puts out a great product and we've had tons of fun with it over the last 11 months. Yesterday, Jeff wanted to practice for Thanksgiving by smoking a turkey. We brined it, seasoned and buttered it, and then cooked it at a nice 295 degrees for about 5 hours, with an additional hour at 350 to bring it up to 165 F. It turned out great, was nice & juicy, and we enjoyed it other than we didn't love the seasoning--a garlic herb blend I had. So that will change for Thanksgiving. In the picture above, you can see the turkey. And Roxy. It's obvious Roxy wants in on the action!

Other things we LOVE to cook on the pellet grill:
- Papa Murphy's pizzas {it will easily hold 2 family sized pizzas at once}. You've never had such an evenly cooked crust!
- cookies! Yes, cookies!
- steaks, tri-tip, etc.
- pork ribs
- potatoes in a cast iron skillet
- salmon
There's a special on these grills for the month of November, so if you're looking for one, check them out! We recommend them to everyone we know.
